It gives us great joy to see the students of our department taking the lead in a general awareness campaign (an NSS Unit-DWC initiative) at the neighbouring slum (Barafkal basti).

Students’ Achievement

I am overjoyed to share that students of 1st, 3rd and 5th Semester pursuing English Hons at our college were accompanied by the teachers of our department to the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur on 11.11.2023 to attend a special lecture by the eminent scholar Professor Sukanta Chaudhury, Professor Emiritus, Jadavpur University on Shakespeare. They received unique insights into Shakespearean plays, especially in terms of their composition and staging.

Students’ Achievement

I am very delighted to share that Madhushree Sen, Anushree Saha and Shreya Das of Sem VI Hons (2020-23 Batch) participated in a National Conference titled ‘Emerging Trends in Using Language and Literature in the Millennial Classroom to Foster Effective Communication’ at the NSHM Centre for Language and Communication, NSHM Knowledge Campus-Durgapur on 03.03.2023 and 04.03.2023. They went there, representing our department and college, in response to the invitation that Durgapur Women’s College received from the NSHM Centre for Language and Communication. The knowledge that they gained there is surely going to help them in their future endeavours.

Given below is a brief report on the conference that I received from Dr Soujanya Pudi, Head of the NSHM Centre for Language and Communication:

“Dear All,
A National Conference was organized by NSHM Centre for Language & Communication at NSHM Durgapur campus on 3.3.23 & 4.3.23 . We had more than 102 participants who were research scholars, faculty members and students joining from various universities around the country both in the offline & online mode.
The Conference was inaugurated on 03rd March 2023 by Shri Sanjay Singh, IPS, Additional Director General, Western Zone, Shri Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam, IPS, Commissioner of Police, ADPC, Dr ZN Patil, Retd Professor-Training & Development from EFLU Hyderabad, Dr Managrakayasi-National Head-ELTAI from ELTAI Chennai, Dr Krishnendhu Sarkar, Director Life Skills School & Dr Alok Satsangi- Director, NSHM Knowledge Campus, Durgapur &
Prof Dr Soujanya Pudi -Head CLC & Convenor of the Conference.
There was a call for papers on the themes eco-literature, language and communication, ELT, ICT in the classroom. Around 102 participants sent their papers for the conference and the organising committee selected 62 papers for paper presentation.
On 4th March 2023, Shri Pradip Majumder, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Panchayat & Rural Development, Govt of West Bengal inaugurated the ELTAI Chapter at NSHM Centre for Language & Communication, Durgapur and remarked, how conferences like these will bring faculty from across the globe and students together to learn and unlearn and chisel the classroom experiences.
